WHO ARE YOUR PEOPLE?

Belonging is one of our strongest psychological desires. The relationships we have with our friends and family can be one of our greatest sources of well-being and happiness.

In a time where we are separated from those we love, reach out.

Send a message. Write a letter. Let someone hear your voice.

This quote is from Dr. Pippa Grange, applied Psychologist and coach to elite sportspeople. Her experience working with athletes has led her to suggest that our concerns and anxieties - as numerous and varied as they are - often derive from one of four root fears:

1. fear of not being loved

2. fear of failing

3. fear of being inadequate

4. fear of being rejected

Lesson in living well: Think about how our connection to others helps alleviate these fears.

Connection helps us love and feel loved. Sharing our mess-ups and disappointments, and realising that's okay (it's all part of life) helps us when things go wrong. Sharing our doubts and insecurities with those who love us - flaws and all - helps us accept we are enough. Talking to people, spending time with them and listening to them helps us feel accepted.

In a world where we are told to keep our distance, find ways to stay close to those who matter to you most.
