What inspired the artwork? This painting is part of the Confidence series and was created in response to psychologist Dr. Amy Cuddy's book: 'Presence' - and investigation into how we can face life's challenges, and step outside our comfort zones, more easily by tapping into our personal power.
Amy Cuddy's TED Talk 'Your body language may shape who you are' has been watched nearly 60 million times.' In it, Cuddy explores the affect body language has on how others see us, and how we see ourselves. She explains how 'power posing' (standing in a posture of confidence - even when we don't feel confident) can boost feelings of confidence and how this can impact our chances for success.
The lesson for living well here is: to think about your physical body as a tool to being more confident, to be more aware of your own body and how it can make you feel. This isn't about becoming a body builder, or suddenly strutting around the place like a peacock! It's about being more comfortable in your own skin ('bien dans sa peau' as the French elegantly put it).
