What inspired the artwork?

This series of paintings was inspired after re-reading Mark Manson's irreverent book 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: a counterintuitive approach to living a good life'.

Do you find yourself getting angry at the news? Frustrated by the demands from work? Your family? Or society?

If you are ready to live with more ease then this is the book - and paintings - for you.

Manson's manifesto is not about not caring. It's the opposite. It's a book about choosing what to care about.

There are four paintings in the series, each with a suggestion of how to let go:

  1. Suggestion #1: Let go of worrying what other people think of you
  2. Suggestion #2: Let go of your fear of failure
  3. Suggestion #3: Let go of attempting to be perfect
  4. Suggestion #4: Let go of comparing your life with others

Suggestion #3: If you find yourself getting frustrated or despondent because you aren't perfect, let go of that frustration. No-one is perfect. Embrace the mess, the chaos of life and aim for 'your best'. Aiming for perfection can stop you from even starting. 'A great job done' is better than a 'perfect job never done'.

This painting with its gutsy composition isn't perfect. Could it do with some more splashes? Would more layers have improved it? Who knows. But it's still a fine little painting and will remind you that done imperfectly is better than never done.
