This is an original abstract painting in acrylic.
It measures 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm (12 in x 12 in x 0.5 in).

The artwork's title is: "Talking like a Tortoise. A guide to talking less and listening more'.

A gorgeous infusion of purples and greens, the zigzags in this piece of art echo the soundwaves created when we speak. The question is - what waves are created when we listen?

What inspired the artwork?

It's inspired by Kate Murphy's book 'You're Not Listening' - and the chapter on 'The Speech-Thought Differential'. It's about appreciating the speed at which people speak and the rate at which we think. If you've ever caught yourself having a conversation in your head, while you 'listen' to someone, you know what we mean.

This artwork is part of a pair (bought separately or together) titled: Talking Like a Tortoise, Thinking like a Hare. It's knowing we talk at an average of 120-150 words per minute and think at 400+ words per minute. That's a lot of free capacity for our mind to wander.

This painting represents the Tortoise. The lesson in living well is a reminder to SLOW DOWN your thinking. Stop having side conversations in your head while you are in conversation with people. Listen at their speed of talking. No mean feat.

If you can manage that, the benefits are huge. When you approach listening in this way, you are fully engaged in the conversation. This improves relationships, reduces conflict and miscommunications and helps you be more mindful too.

We love the heather-like colours of purple, green and sage which bring this artwork to life. The layers bring about dynamic details and there's something to different to look at each time.
